There is not a single functioning blood bank in Liberia...its interesting how much one can take for granted without even realizing it...I have never given blood nor have I really spent time thinking about blood banks because I have never needed to...it was simple in the USA, just walk into any blood drive and give blood but here...the lack of facilities, 24 hour electricity, refrigeration, and blood safety training for the medical staff...has made the lack of blood a serious issue in Liberia...especially for HIV/AIDS patients who need renewed blood.
