Today as we were driving to the Ethiopian restaurant I saw a football (soccer) match going on… driving down the road and sighting a dozen different football games is a typical site….but the players of this game all had crutches and were missing one leg. I was only able to glance at the game as we drove past the field but the image has replayed in my mind a number of times, it is likely that most of these guys lost their leg in the war and yet there they were playing football just like everyone else. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a limb and in Liberia for there is no prostatic leg that will be provided for these young guys. It was a site that causes for so much reflection, on our gifts and how we use them, on challenges and how we approach them, and on life and the purpose of it. Life in Liberia makes me think about the hard questions and try to process the painful as well as the beautiful sites...it’s so easy to try to close my eyes and heart but God is teaching me to pray; “Break my heart for what breaks yours”.
