(I know way more than 5 sentences...sorry. )
There are two major things that those who are working against the negative stigma of HIV and AIDS have found in Liberia: 1) Many churches and people in general believe that a person must be sinning to have HIV and AIDS, 2) There in little to no blood for a blood transfusion for the HIV positive person. Therefore I will be the assisting with the organization of a HIV and AIDS awareness campaign in Lofa County (which is why I am in Foya this weekend).
Today I held a brainstorming session with the key members in the campaign, the finalized agenda includes a march from the church to the different market areas with banners and t-shirts stating, HIV and AIDS is not a sin and donate blood messages. There will then be a program with guest speakers on the importance of donating blood and why HIV is not a sin and of course, small refreshments, and a football game….we expect to have about 300 people in attendance. If you think of it please pray for the logistics of the campaign… the launching date is next Sat. the 29th , all day...and that is only the beginning of the project.
