January 21st
Location: Foya
As I sat in the waiting room to board the flight, I took a look around me, there were probably 10 different nations represented from the UN Military Peace Keepers. In this small waiting room there were men and women in uniforms from Fiji, Kenya, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Ukraine, Pakistan, South Africa, and Italy. It kind of felt surreal to look around the helicopter full UN military from all different nations and then there was me. As we begun to land in Foya the strength of the wind created by the helicopter formed a dust storm black out, which forced us to turn around. Long story short...I was determined not to go back to Monrovia, so I was left at a town that was about a 2 hour drive away from my destination. I then was hosted at the UN Pakistani base which included a delicious homemade meal and picked up by a SP driver…now I’m in Foya reflecting on how fun traveling can be and how many interesting people you can meet along the way.
How did you like the ride? Sounds like an experience!
